Name drift · highTPM has two incompatible expansions and at least two unrelated lineages behind it.
1. Expansion. Herbalistics and Trichocereus.net expand it as Trichocereus peruvianus monstrose. The Succulent Source sell it as Trichocereus pachanoi monstrose. Trichocereus.net note the plant looks more like a peruvianus but is often called pachanoi monstrosa.
2. Lineage. The best documented TPM is SAB member Nitrogen's Australian clone, which switches between monstrose and normal growth and unusually passes the mutation to roughly half its seedlings. Separately, Sacred Succulents distribute their own pachanoi f. monstrosus material under BK accession numbers such as BK08611.4 and BK14518.5, grown from Peruvian seed. These are different plants from different continents sharing an abbreviation.
Do not treat a TPM label as identifying a lineage without asking which one is meant.
