Robust patch with candelabra stems 10 to 14ft tall. Same species as BK08601.1. Possibly hardy to Z8b.

ORIGIN
Locality:north side of Isla del Sol, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, 12,500ft+
Origin note:Collected on the Sacred Succulents 2008 Bolivia field trip from a patch planted beside a house near the back of the small town on the north side of Isla del Sol. Growing with Colletia spinosissima, Baccharis incarum, Ambrosia arborescens, Plantago sp. and some ornamental shrubs.
STORY
The Aymara owner of the house told the collectors that a slice of stem is held externally against the cheek to soothe the pain of toothache. He also said that Argentinian tourists use it as a drug.
NOTES
Distribution is unusually well documented and unusually narrow: 30 seed released in 2008 to supporters of the expedition, and two surviving seed grown plants in the Sacred Succulents collection which have never been cut or distributed. Anything else trading under this number needs explaining.
